I feel like I can not say this enough, but thank you for everything you do! While reading the newsletter I started to cry. Our family is so happy that we found Chavitos for A - and one day our little ones. There is no other place that takes the time like this, and cares so deeply. We are so grateful to be a part of the Chavitos Family.  "

K-8 Program

We offer a homeschool support program for grades K-8.  This program is organized like a co-op- a group of families who learn together and work cooperatively to achieve common goals. Co-ops can be organized around academics, social time, the arts, activities, crafts, service work, special projects—or some combination of these.

We're focused on Academic support and Whole-person success.

Located off Canyon Road, Tacoma Wa.  We Offer:

K-8 Summer Fun Enrollment

Chavitos on the Farm K-8 Group - 2024-01-11 17.50.56 (Erin S.).jpg

This is a drop-off program. Unless teaching a class, volunteering time in the garden, or in an otherwise scheduled volunteer position, parents will drop off their children. Our co-op is academic focused, influenced largely by place-based learning. Because teaching in this niche genre requires a specific skill set, we don't rely on parents as our main teachers, and parents do not stay on site. There are still plenty of ways we rely on parent collaboration to build an education platform for children to thrive!

Van Transportation Service

We provide van transportation from a central Tacoma location for a monthly fee.

It's convenient for parents, conscientious to our neighbors, and cares for our environment!  Win - Win!

Current Daily Chavitos K-8 Rhythm for 2024-2025

Farm Chores, Spanish, Social Justice, Cooking, Field games and Gardening are taught whole school K-8.  Science is taught as a whole group three times a week on M/W/F and twice a week those concepts are expanded and elaborated in a higher level science class for grades 4-8.  T/Th Elective classes are grouped together for Marimba class.

Academics are broken into three groups; "Pups" K-1, "Cavies" grades 2-4, and "Alphas" 5-8, (child is matched with skill level not necessarily grade level).  All academics are differentiated through 1-1 conferences, whole group and small group lessons.  Each child's academics is highly differentiated depending on their needs, interests and what they are ready for.

We use Montessori principles to do guided reading and math.

K-8 Program Fees

The K-8 program is like an à la carte. There are a lot of different options so you can choose what is the best fit for your child.  These are the main options, but we are open to chatting about others. It can be a puzzle so reach out with questions.

Membership Fee: $200 ($50 discount for additional siblings.) Fee pays for land use, administrative costs such as website, insurance, cleaning supplies, class supplies, and application processing.

This is a nonrefundable annual membership fee.

Class fee: Class costs vary depending on how many children are participating, and what classes you choose. Elective classes are $33/student/block.  For beneficial student culture, we give priority to students who enroll for the entire 3 class elective block.  The classes run for three months per session. Students are automatically enrolled in the next session unless given a month's notice that they will not be returning. Class fees are paid for in monthly payments. There is a flat class fee for each month and will vary depending on how many classes a week your child is enrolled.   Class fees cover the cost of teacher compensation and guest teachers.

If you're on a budget, you have great flexibility to keep your costs down by choosing less classes or bartering.
